The Historical Hairdresser!"

(See webpage for full details...)

Have you heard the news?  The Historical Hairdresser will spend two days in Seattle teaching historical hairstyling and how to use hairpieces to create period hair-styles. This is an exceptional opportunity to take classes in the Pacific Northwest from a nationally-recognized instructor.

If you've been wondering why you don't have enough hair to create the hairstyles seen in paintings and photos, this weekend will provide you with the training, supplies and experience to produce beautiful creations yourself.  Register NOW!

Countess Cassimira is a long time SITU Member and professionally sells her hatpin creations.  She will be teaching this Workshop for SITU members & friends to attend!

SITU-University Presents:

A 4-Part Workshop to
Create 18th Century Stays

(Corset)
With SITU's own Denise Hendrick!

Saturdays July 7th, July 21st, August 18th, and
one more date 2-3 weeks out.

Denise Hendrick will lead this 4 part stays workshop, at her studio in Lakebay, on the Key Peninsula.  This workshop consists of 4 sessions because the fitting and construction of well-made stays that you can wear with pride, takes time and patience.

Practical understanding of basic hand and machine sewing is essential.  Stays construction is not overly complicated, but does rely on precision in cutting and sewing.

Cost for the 4 part workshop is: $230/person, including all these supplies, EXCEPT outer fashion fabric and binding:

  • Corset pattern (J.P. Ryan Half-boned stays; if anyone already owns this pattern, we can deduct $20 from the cost, or apply towards leather binding)
  • Linen canvas or coutil for inner layers
  • Fine linen for lining layer
  • Reed and flat steel for boning
  • Metal grommets
  • Lacing
  • Linen tape for applying over seams
  • Appropriate muslin for mock-up
  • Leather binding (OPTIONAL - Add $18 for leather binding; can be purchased later)

Suggested fabrics for outer layer:  Linen, worsted wool, or silk are historically accurate choices, but cotton and other natural fibers would also work well.  Burnley and Trowbridge (http://www.burnleyandtrowbridge.com/) have a very nice selection of suitable linen and wool fabrics, including a number of worsteds that are not up on the site yet, including red, cranberry, pale blue, navy blue, blue green and drab olive.  They are very helpful and willing to answer any questions you might have.  Denise will have some fabric swatches available at the first session.

Session 1 – Denise will lead you through size selection and appropriate pattern modifications, so that you can create a custom-fitted pattern.  You will go home with your personalized pattern and will be expected to sew the mock-up by the next session.

Session 2 – Your mock-up will be fitted and additional pattern changes completed. You will go home with your final personalized pattern and will be expected to cut the pattern pieces out of linen and your chosen fashion fabric.

Session 3– Denise will demonstrate construction techniques and discuss boning options.  You will be expected to finish construction and boning at home before the final class.

Session 4 – We will insert metal grommets, if desired, as well as discuss hand sewn eyelets as an option.  A final fitting will be done at this time to check for fit and make any needed adjustments. Denise will discuss lining and binding the stays, and you will finish these steps on your own at home.

Because of the size of the studio and to provide for personalized instruction, this
workshop series will be limited to 4 students.

If more than 4 students want to participate, we will consider adding other dates/times.  The 4 sessions will be on the following dates:

     Saturday, July 7th,
     Saturday, July 21st,
     Saturday, August 18th,
and one more date 2-3 weeks out.

The time the sessions will begin has not been finalized.  When registering, please give us your preference for starting time.  You will be informed what time the sessions will begin.  Because of the location of this workshop, we will help with car pooling.

If you are unable to attend all 4 sessions, adjustments to the schedule will be considered on an individual basis.

This workshop series may sell out, so please indicate your intent to register by emailing Bobbie "at" SITUSeattle.com immediately.  I will then give you information about how to pay for the workshop, either by check or PayPal.

Your registration in the workshop will be confirmed when payment is received.  Refunds upon cancellation will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

We are eagerly looking forward to this workshop!  Please let Bobbie know if you have any questions.

Reserve a spot: Bobbie "at" SITUSeattle.com   Details as to the location will be provided after receipt of payment for materials.
