In addition to the classes in sewing Victorian clothing offered by Rebecca Morrison-Peck (of Lacings fame) and Margaret Phillips in Vancouver, Washington, I discovered more classes while on vacation. My
husband and I traveled to
Oregon City, OR to do some
sightseeing. The town is quite lovely and very historic with
many Victorian homes and museums. One of them is the
Historic Francis Ermatinger House Textile &
Living History Museum. They offer vintage
clothing and textile exhibits, special events & activities,
Victorian clothing workshops, and living history teas. The
teas are by reservation only, with a minimum of six required.

| We also visited the McLoughlin House, home of Dr. McLoughlin (factor at Fort Vancouver in the early years of the territory), and we enjoyed a tour of the home led by a costumed docent. Afterwards, I found some wonderful costume-related pamphlets and books at the gift shop in the adjacent historic house, which had been the starting point of the tour. | |||
| Jim and I then toured the Stevens Crawford House, which was built by the descendants of a wagon master who led pioneers across the Oregon Trail. It contained not only most of its original, circa 1908 furniture, but also several collections of the original owner including a few costumes and a large number of purses, women's jewelry, and many hats, including some which were from very early periods. Unfortunately, the hats were a special exhibit and would only be on display until the middle of November, 2007. | |||
| Oregon City is a very interesting place so if you have any spare time to take a trip, consider Oregon City! They also have excellent restaurants there, as well as a great view of Willamette Falls. | |||
