The Q & A portion:

What type of hat are we making?  The class will teach attendees how to construct buckram and wire frame hats.

How much choice do attendees have in what the hat will look like?  Attendees will learn how to draft patterns for just about any style of hat (Mary will bring several examples with different crown and brim styles).  However, since one should learn how to walk before running, attendees are encouraged to make a simple boater style hat for their first hat.  If an attendee wants to make a more complex hat, information and assistance will be available.

What are the supplies – that is, what is used in making the hat?  Mary will be supplying sufficient buckram and wire for a basic hat.  The attendee supplies the covering and lining fabrics and decorations (ribbons, flowers, feathers, etc.)

Do attendees have to attend both days all day?  Day One will consist of learning how to measure and draft hat pattern pieces, and how to construct the pieces.  Attendees will take the information and supplies home with them and construct their hat pieces.  During Day Two attendees will learn how to cover the pieces with their fabric(s) of choice and how to sew those pieces together into a completed (but undecorated) hat.

Do attendees have to arrive on time?  Yes.  There will be a lot of information and instruction to cram into each day's session, and arriving late will not only cause attendees to miss valuable information. (Besides, it's just plain rude.)

What do attendees have to bring?  A supplies and equipment list will be provided to each attendee prior to the classes. The only "unusual" sewing item on it that attendees might not have already, is a pair of wire snips/cutters for cutting the millinery wire to size.

What if I want to just watch or I want to bring someone with me?  We are considering whether observers can be accommodated.
