Bal Masque dans le Vieux Carre

(Masquerade Ball in New Orleans)

F

ebruary, 1803,  New Orleans is a gumbo of tastes, smells, languages, and intrigue.  Spanish grandees have homes of gilded elegance.  French convents shelter girls destined for upper class domesticity.  Acadian traders ply the mighty Mississippi for tobacco and pelts.  Napoleon Bonaparte has returned Louisiana to French control, but soon he will sell it to the United States.  Yankee scouts are coming in looking to take advantage of the next opportunity, whatever it may be. Creole Society is ready for a new year, a new adventure, a new Bal a la Masquerade!
